Maps of Australian Railways
This application has been developed by a senior Australian Track Engineer using data gathered over more than 20 years. The accuracy of the data depended on the source, some is high quality official, other traced using the Google Earth satellite imagery or else general references. The latter are often shown as a straight line joining two points awaiting better data. Proposed lines are also included and come from survey files.
Instructions:
1. Download the file AUS Tracks 2026-05-21.kmz to a suitable folder
2. To use, first download Google Earth Pro
3. Then double click on the file “AUS Tracks 2026-05-21.kmz” The overlays will appear on the Google Earth satellite view.
The file will appear under “Temporary Places”, you may need to select the file in Temporary Places to keep it active when you shut the application down. You can select each state or the whole country, and also select the required attributes. It is fairly straightforward. The colours will vary a little with each state but it is easy to understand.
