Australian National Railway (ANR)
ANR was created in1975 by merging Commonwealth Railways, Tasmanian Government Railways and the county lines of the South Australian Railways.
Prior to 1975 each issued their own publications although the Weekly Notices were more complicated.
CR originally issued their general publication as the “Monthly Notice” but after a while it became irregular and often issues were many months apart. In 1927 it was renamed the General Notice and then in 1944 safeworking information appears to have been included in the Weekly General Circular. In 1958 a Weekly Notice commenced and lasted until 1975 when it became the ANR Weekly Notice Northern Region. These series are incomplete.
South Australian Railways (SAR)
SAR issued a Weekly Notice and this lasted until 1975 when it was renamed the ANR Central Region Weekly Notice and later merged with the Northern Region to become the ANR Weekly Notice. For a while some of locations that were within the Adelaide Metro area were included in the STA Weekly Notice but this generally just dealt with bus matters.
Tasmanian Government Railways (TGR)
TGR first issued a Fortnightly Notice but some rotten sod stole many of the issued that were on the open shelves in the State Library. After the ANR takeover Tasmanian continued to issue its own WN from 1978 until 1993.
